The Jew who was attacked: “I closed my eyes and said ‘just don’t pull out a knife'”

Ben Yakar shared about the attack he went through and the feelings he experienced, “They pounced on me, and started kicking and cursing me a little in Arabic, there was one who spoke and had an accent. At one point I closed my eyes and said ‘just don’t pull out a knife or something, because how am I going to get out of this’.”

“They attacked me for about five or six minutes and ran away.” Ben Yakar added about the difficult incident, “At first I thought my phone had been stolen because it fell while they were beating me. Then one of the neighbors across the street came out, in the area where I am all Jewish.”

You sensed they were approaching you or you were safe That’s not at all towards you?

“I was walking on the other side of the sidewalk and saw them, I suddenly had this feeling, I saw them and I said, ‘There’s something here,’ but it was a matter of seconds.

Did you try to defend yourself against them?

“I defended myself the whole time, it was instinct, I kept my hands over my face and tried to protect my stomach.”

“I don’t think they were waiting for me or they followed me, because I just went downstairs from the apartment and didn’t walk around too much.”

Will it change anything in your conduct from now on?

“My parents kept telling me every time ‘be careful with the Hebrew’. I felt safe here and I have friends and a right-wing father, I come to London many times, my family lives here and I felt comfortable. I’m sure now that I will have a much lower profile.”
