Chinese tourists searching for Vietnam tourism increased by more than 160%

The number of searches for accommodation facilities in Vietnam from the Chinese market in the first 5 months of the year grew the most, followed by Indonesia and the Philippines.

According to an announcement from the digital travel platform Agoda on June 25, the number of searches for Vietnamese tourism from the Chinese market in the period from January 1 to May 31 increased by 164% over the same period last year, leading among countries interested in the S-shaped strip of land.

Data compiled from the 10 largest international markets on this platform shows that all of the top 10 recorded a growth trend. Over the same period, search volume from Indonesia increased by 86%, followed by the Philippines (82%) and Thailand (65%).

Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam, Country Director of Agoda in Vietnam, said that having three Southeast Asian countries in the top 5, along with the presence of Myanmar and Malaysia in the top 10, shows that Vietnam is becoming the “golden coordinates” of the region.

Regarding destinations, in most international markets, Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City hold the top 3 most searched positions. Platform representatives evaluate these as major tourism gateways of Vietnam, bringing many unique experiences to tourists.

As for Poland – the only European representative in the top 10 – the growth rate reached 63%. This push largely comes from the visa exemption policy applied by Vietnam for Polish citizens from 2025. The removal of visa barriers has opened the way for Eastern European tourists to easily plan tours and vacations, while also boosting this market’s interest in destinations in Vietnam.

Phu Quoc leads the searches of Indian and Polish visitors, showing the attraction of the pearl island to international visitors.

According to data from the An Giang Department of Tourism, from January to the end of May, the province welcomed more than 13.3 million visitors, an increase of 12.1% over the same period last year. Phu Quoc alone welcomed about 4.77 million visitors, an increase of 34.2% over the same period and completing 56.1% of the year’s plan. The number of international visitors reached about 1.17 million, an increase of 51%.

On June 19, travel magazine Travel + Leisure also named Phu Quoc at number 2 for the annual Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific – honoring outstanding high-end destinations and resorts in the Asia-Pacific region.

“The explosive search wave from international markets affirms Vietnam’s comprehensive appeal,” said an Agoda representative, highlighting Vietnam’s diverse tourism ecosystem from modern urban areas, long-standing culture to majestic natural landscapes.
