The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has stressed that he is still willing to mediate to achieve a peace agreement in Ukraine, despite the doubts about the possibility of a meeting between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Volodimir Zelenski, respectively, and has assured that, although Moscow and kyiv “are not yet prepared”, “something is going to happen.”
Trump has indicated in statements granted to the American television network CBS that is following the strap between Putin and Zelenski around a possible summit and has affirmed that it is something that he has addressed with both. “I’ve been seeing it and talked about it with Putin and Zelenski,” he said.
“Something is going to happen, but they are not yet prepared. Something will happen. We are going to achieve it,” said the White House tenant, who has expressed his confidence in “being able to fix everything” and has reiterated that his position with diplomatic negotiations is to achieve a meeting between leaders, which requires patience.
In this sense, the US president has defended the need to be patient with the parties. “We have had a good days, fortunately, and once we get them to meet in a room or at least get them to talk to each other, we could work. We have saved millions of lives,” he argued, citing his supposed role of mediation in other conflicts.
The White House has stressed on several occasions that Trump has been key to the recently reached agreements in six international conflicts, including the high fire between Israel and Iran and the high fire between Pakistan and India, although New Delhi has said that it was bilaterally agreed and without Washington’s implication.
