Israel deducted PA debts for electricity, water and terror from Palestinian taxes

In accordance with the order of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, tax revenues amounting to more than 740 million shekels in April were not transferred to the Palestinian Authority this month.

NIS 590 million of this amount was withheld to pay the Palestinian Authority’s debt to Hevrat Hashmal, water concerns and environmental companies. Funds that the Palestinian Authority intended to be transferred to terrorist structures were also withheld.

The balance of the amount was frozen in accordance with the Minister’s policy, in effect for about a year, not to transfer funds to the Palestinian Authority due to its activities against the State of Israel in the international arena and support for the promotion of terror.

“We will not transfer money that ultimately ends up with terrorists,” Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich commented on his order. “Our policy is clear: every shekel intended to promote terrorism or hostile activity will be withheld. At the same time, we act responsibly to ensure that funds are directed to protect the vital interests of Israel. Those who choose to fight against the State of Israel in the international arena and support terrorism will pay the price.”
