La Jornada: Treasury carries out a third debt refinancing

The Ministry of Finance carried out the third refinancing operation in the local market, seeking to strengthen the profile of public debt, it reported in a statement.

With the refinancing operation – for 101,368 million pesos – the average term of the refinanced debt was extended by 4.32 years.

The agency highlighted that the transaction made it possible to strengthen the composition of the portfolio and have greater depth and liquidity in the local market.

He explained that in the refinancing operation, Cetes, M Bonos and Udibonos with maturities between 2026 and 2029 were replaced by instruments with maturities between 2028 and 2046, for a total amount of 101 thousand 368 million pesos.

“As a result, the average term of the refinanced debt was extended by 4.32 years, strengthening the composition of the portfolio and favoring greater depth and liquidity in the local market.” He detailed that, of the total repurchased, 28,635 million pesos corresponded to maturities this year; 34,489 million due in 2027; 19 thousand 29 million due in 2028, and 19 thousand 215 million pesos due in 2029.

They fulfill annual plan

He noted that the operation was part of the comprehensive proactive liability management strategy, in line with what is established in the 2026 Annual Financing Plan.

The agency led by Édgar Amador Zamora stated in the statement that the conditions obtained reflect the confidence of national and foreign investors in the macroeconomic solidity of the country and “show the commitment of the government of Mexico to the sustainability of the public debt, the prudent management of public finances and compliance with the guidelines approved by the Congress of the Union for fiscal year 2026.”
