Iran praises its ties with Russia and applauds Moscow for its “support for diplomacy” in the Middle East

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, expressed this Tuesday his gratitude to Russia for its “support for diplomacy” and praised the firmness of the ties between both countries, after a meeting with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, in the middle of a tour framed in the efforts to try to reach an agreement with the United States to end the conflict in the Middle East.

“As our relationship continues to grow, we appreciate the solidarity and welcome Russia’s support for diplomacy,” Araqchi said in a message on social media, where he posted photographs of his meetings with Putin and his Russian foreign counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.

“Satisfied to be able to interact with Russia at the highest level, at a time when the (Middle East) region is going through an enormous period of uncertainty. Recent events have demonstrated the depth and firmness of our strategic alliance,” concluded the head of Iranian diplomacy.

Putin assured on Monday that he will intercede for Iran, as well as for other Middle Eastern countries, to accelerate the peace process in the region, mired in conflict as a result of the surprise offensive launched on February 28 by the United States and Israel against Iran, in the midst of talks between Washington and Tehran to try to reach a new nuclear agreement.

Araqchi is on tour these days after having visited Oman and Pakistan, which has tried unsuccessfully to mediate a summit so that authorities from Washington and Tehran could meet for the second time in Islamabad to try to reach an agreement. The ceasefire between Iran and Israel and the United States, agreed on April 8 for a period of two weeks, has been extended without a defined deadline until negotiations are concluded.
