Iran threatens ‘painful response’ if US resumes attacks

The threat was made by Iranian authorities while Washington, according to information from the American press, is already evaluating new scenarios of military action to pressure Tehran to give in in negotiations.

According to the agency Reutersa senior official in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said that any new American attack, even if limited, would provoke a direct response against US positions in the region. Another Iranian military commander stated that the country has already demonstrated the ability to target American bases and assets and would do the same against warships if necessary.

President Donald Trump’s government is expected to receive a Pentagon report in the coming days with updated attack options to pressure Iran into accepting a deal. The assessment within the White House is that the possibility of using force continues to be an instrument to unlock negotiations.
