Trump says María Corina said she didn’t deserve the Nobel Prize

According to Trump, the opposition leader’s speech in this regard occurred when he received the Nobel Peace Medal from María Corina in January, given to her by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in December 2025.

“Maria was very kind. She gave me her Nobel Peace Prize as a gift because she said I didn’t deserve it. She was very, very kind”, declared the president. “I resolved eight wars and, in every case, people, prime ministers or presidents, wrote me letters thanking me,” he said.

Allies of President Trump criticized the Nobel committee for not choosing to award the Republican last year. White House communications director Steven Cheung said at the time that the committee had put “politics above peace” by not awarding the award to Trump, who he said had acted directly to end conflicts and promote international agreements.

Maria Corina won the Nobel Prize for “her tireless work in promoting the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and for her struggle to achieve a fair and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy,” said the committee when announcing the winner of the premiership in October 2025.

The opposition leader has praised the Trump government, especially after the capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, which placed Chavismo under the White House’s sights. At this time, María Corina has been trying to influence the US government and order new elections to be held in Venezuela.
