Sitting too long, on hard surfaces, being lazy, and not paying attention when going to the toilet can cause hemorrhoids to develop, causing pain.
Hemorrhoids are a condition in which the veins in the anus and lower rectum dilate, divided into two types: internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are common in office workers after age 30. They are not dangerous but can reduce the patient’s quality of life.
Some factors that increase the risk of hemorrhoids include sitting a lot and being sedentary, drinking little water, eating spicy foods, a low-fiber diet, obesity, pregnancy, anal sex… To avoid irritation and increased pressure on hemorrhoids causing pain and discomfort, patients need to avoid some of the following things.
Adding too much fiber
Fiber softens stools and helps them move more easily through the body. However, people with hemorrhoids should add fiber slowly, little by little and increase the total amount consumed to avoid causing flatulence, bloating, and changing the need to defecate. This increases pressure on hemorrhoids and causes digestive disorders.
Fiber is found in green vegetables, beans, whole grains, and fruits. People with hemorrhoids should supplement about 30 – 35 g of fiber every day to reduce pressure on hemorrhoids.

Dehydration
Drink enough water to keep stools soft and easier to pass. Water aids digestion and overall health in general. In addition to filtered water, you can drink prune juice and smoothies for natural laxatives and prevent constipation.
Lazy to exercise
Sitting continuously for many hours causes the body’s weight to accumulate in the anal area, causing the veins here to compress and making it difficult for blood to circulate. This condition causes stagnation, swelling, and promotes hemorrhoids to grow large and painful. People with hemorrhoids should walk briskly for 20-30 minutes a day to help the circulatory system function stably, support bowel movements, and control hemorrhoid symptoms. If you work in an office and have to sit for long periods of time, you should regularly stand up and walk around for at least 5 minutes every hour.
Exertion
Pushing, pulling or straining to carry can lead to hemorrhoid pain and bleeding, making hemorrhoid symptoms worse.
Sit on a hard surface
Instead of sitting directly on a hard surface, the patient should sit on a soft, comfortable cushion or chair to help reduce swelling of the hemorrhoids and avoid painful contact. This method can also help prevent new hemorrhoids from forming.
Scratching
Scratching and rubbing when itching can damage the skin and make the irritation and itching worse.
Some methods to help reduce hemorrhoid symptoms naturally include applying ice or applying hemorrhoid cream to ease the pain. Lifestyle changes such as adding fiber, drinking plenty of water and exercising can help you have regular bowel movements and avoid hemorrhoid pain in the long run.
Patients should avoid sitting for a long time in the toilet, not use the phone when going to the toilet and maintain the habit of having bowel movements on time. Prioritize using alcohol-free wet wipes to reduce irritation. You can place a low chair under your feet when going to the toilet to support the squatting position. You should wear soft, loose underwear to help the private area breathe and limit moisture and discomfort.
