Tragedy in Uzbekistan: a 72-year-old resident of Jerusalem collapsed and died at the airport

A 72-year-old Israeli man, a resident of Jerusalem, died last Monday after unexpectedly collapsing at the Bukhara airport in Uzbekistan. The deceased was in the country as part of a trip, and around 06:00 in the morning (local time) he lost consciousness in front of those around him. Local medical teams that were called to the scene performed CPR on him, but in the end they had to pronounce him dead.

As soon as the difficult report was received, members of Zaka’s international unit entered the picture, working in close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MK Uri Makalev’s office (Torah Judaism) and the Jewish Congress that recognized Lev Leviev as president. The main goal is to ensure the respect of the deceased and the quick release of the body from the local authorities in Uzbekistan in order to bring it for burial in Jerusalem.

Yossi Landau, ZAKA Kambat Lakish region, said: “From the moment we received the report, we acted immediately with all the authorities to bring the deceased to the grave of Israel quickly and with due respect. This is a very complex and sensitive case, and we accompany the family all the way.” Landau wanted to especially thank the president of the Jewish community in Uzbekistan, Mr. Arkady Issacharov, for his great assistance in promoting the process with the local authorities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is updated on the details of the event and is assisting the Jerusalem family in this difficult time with everything necessary to complete the flight arrangements.
