Among the French nationalists of the Rassemblement National and the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz there are “convergences” on an ideological level on some issues, such as migration and the revision of the Green Deal. And, if he wins the Elysée, he will fit into a “dynamic” already underway, in which the leader of the CDU has “drawn closer” to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Word of Jordan Bardellaleader of the Rassemblement National and possible candidate for the presidency of France next year.
“First of all – said Bardella today in Strasbourg, at a press conference – the Rassemblement National is committed to the Franco-German balance, as driving force of European integration since the end of the Second World War. And of course the next French government, if it were a government formed by the Rassemblement National, would collaborate with all the “European” heads of state and government.
“In my opinion – he added – there are points of convergence on an ideological level with Chancellor Merz on various issues. Not on all of them, obviously, but in particular on his criticism of Ursula von der Leyen’s Green Deal policies, on the questioning of regulations that mainly concern the industrial and automotive sectors and on the management of migratory flows”.
For Bardella, “it is important to highlight these convergences and evaluate the possibility of continuing to work together, to build strong, autonomous, free and independent European nations, capable of creating the conditions for growth and protecting their borders”.
“I note – underlined Bardella – that Germany has chosen, for several months now, to get closer to Italy and Giorgia Meloni. And it is clear that, if the French seat in the Council were to pass in our favor in a few months, we would be part of this dynamic, a dynamic which aims, on the one hand, to regain control of our borders in terms of immigration and, on the other, to create the conditions for growth, given that in the era of the great powers we must allow the European nations to return to being free economies, autonomous and independent and to create wealth”.
And, concluded Bardella, “the essential condition for the future is to allow the European continent to have a significant voice in the main global debates. There may be areas of convergence. And in any case, we are committed to dialogue.”
