The US imposed sanctions against nine Hezbollah associates, including members of the Lebanese parliament

The US State Department announced sanctions against nine individuals who assist Hezbollah’s efforts to undermine Lebanese sovereignty. “By providing assistance to a terrorist group, they are promoting a harmful Iranian agenda in Lebanon and preventing the Lebanese people from moving towards peace and reconstruction,” the statement said.

“Hezbollah continues to use terror and refuses to disarm. This prevents the Lebanese government from providing the country with the peace, stability and prosperity that the Lebanese people deserve,” the State Department said.

Among those against whom new sanctions have been introduced are members of parliament, an Iranian diplomat who violates Lebanese sovereignty, and a member of the security forces who uses their powers for the purposes of a terrorist group. Their names are not mentioned, but it can be assumed that the list includes the Iranian Ambassador to Beirut Reza Shibani, who was declared persona non grata but refused to leave Lebanon.
