Lys struggles with heat: “You sweat it off”

Lys had to struggle with the heat almost more than with her opponent. “It’s incredibly difficult. I think you sweat out everything you drink,” said the Hamburg native: “I always said to myself in my head: You won’t be the one who tips away. But running from right to left – you sweat it off, the racket doesn’t stay in your hand. It’s definitely not easy.”

For Lys it was the fourth win in the twelfth match this year. She suffered a knee injury in her first appearance at the beginning of January. The result was a week-long forced break after the Australian Open and subsequent problems with the rhythm of the game.

In her first round victory in Paris, last year’s Australian Open round of 16 player was particularly strong in the return game on Marcinko’s serve. Lys wobbled in her own service in the first set, but improved in the second set. The German also benefited from many of her opponent’s mistakes.
