A coach got into trouble after his daughter asked ChatGPT for advice

Theo Japan NewsMr. Abe, 47 years old, is the head coach of the Japanese baseball team Yomiuri Giants. He was arrested by police on May 25 for assaulting his daughter but was released at night. On May 26, he wrote his resignation letter. The Yomiuri Giants Club announced on the same day that he was no longer the team’s coach.

According to the Yomiuri Giants team website, Mr. Abe tried to stop an argument between his 18 and 15-year-old daughters at around 6:00 p.m. on May 25. However, his eldest daughter argued back, making him angry, grabbed her by the collar and pushed her down but was not injured.

The girl then told ChatGPT to seek advice and received advice to report to the child protection center. She did so, and the center notified the Shibuya (Tokyo) Police Department. Mr. Abe was arrested a few dozen minutes later. Before that, the family had no conflicts.

Mr. Abe admitted his behavior, saying “he lost his temper over a small matter”. He apologized to his daughter, his family and the Yomiuri Giants football team. Shibuya Police Department said he expressed remorse so he was released and they will continue the investigation “on a voluntary basis” by all parties.
