The Union continues to slump: according to the current survey, the FDP is back at five percent for the first time

In the current “trend barometer” from RTL and ntv, the CDU/CSU has fallen by one percentage point to just 21 percent. The value reported on Tuesday is the worst for the Union parties since the end of 2021. The FDP improved by one point to five percent and could therefore hope to return to the Bundestag after its change in leadership.

The values of the other parties remained largely unchanged:

  1. AfD: 27 percent
  2. CDU/CSU: 21 percent
  3. The Greens: 15 percent
  4. SPD: 12 percent
  5. The Left: 11 percent

The black-red coalition remains far from a majority. An alliance of the CDU/CSU, the Greens and the SPD would be mathematically possible. The other parties have ruled out working with the AfD, and the Union has also ruled out working with the Left Party.

Satisfaction with Merz remains low

According to the survey, satisfaction with Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) remains very low with only 13 percent approval. 85 percent of those surveyed expressed dissatisfaction.

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) leads the ranking of the most important politicians, followed by North Rhine-Westphalia Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) and the new Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Cem Özdemir (Greens). At the bottom are Economics Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU)AfD leader Tino Chrupalla and In last place is Union parliamentary group leader Jens Spahn (CDU).

Interviewed for the “Trend Barometer”. the opinion research institute Forsa from May 26th to June 1st 2502 eligible voters. Part of the survey took place before the FDP party conference at the weekend, part after. The statistical error rate was estimated to be 2.5 percentage points.
