Wim Wenders shelved his movie Wrong Move because of the nudity of a teenage girl

The film shows a scene in which the then only 13-year-old actor Nastassja Kinski appears upper body bare in a scene with a male actor in his thirties. The character played by a man slaps the young mute girl played by Kinski in the face and fondles her wearing only her underwear.

It was Nastassja Kinski’s first role in any film. Since then, Kinski has become a well-known actor who has appeared, among other things, in the classic film directed by Wenders Paris, Texas (1984).

The director presented his apology to 65-year-old Nastassja Kinski and said that he would instruct streaming services, television channels and distributors to withdraw the film from distribution.

Next, according to Wenders, a dialogue will be started with the German Film Academy, the German Film Institute and other film institutions about whether the film can be shown again in the future and under what conditions. According to the statement, Nastassja Kinski is also supposed to be consulted when seeking a solution.

Kinski told to the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung in May that he had been trying for fifteen years to talk to Wenders about changing the film, directly and through a lawyer.

“Even though I didn’t know much when I was thirteen, I realized even then that everything was not okay,” Kinski told the magazine about the scene.

Kinski’s career took off in the 1980s, and he won, among other things, the Golden Globe Award, received Oscar nominations and sat on the Cannes Film Festival jury. It wasn’t until 2011 that Kinski started trying to reach out to Wenders after noticing “how many women and girls in this profession talk about their uncomfortable experiences.”
