Zelenzky wants face-to-face meeting with Putin to end war

The meeting, according to the Ukrainian, should be held outside Moscow or Kiev – preferably in a neutral country, such as Switzerland or an Arab nation. The proposal is for an initial ceasefire, followed by the exchange of civilian prisoners and children kidnapped by Russia.

Zelensky also stated that the European Union, together with the United States, should take part in the negotiations. In a threatening tone, the Ukrainian said, at the end of the letter, that history shows that changes happen when Russia gets tired during a war.

“Ukraine has its resources, and we can make this fatigue happen. You may end up fighting not for Russia’s existence, but for your own existence. Whatever you say about NATO geopolitics or the Russian language, this war is your personal decision, a war for no real reason,” he said.

In response, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the proposal for a direct negotiation between the two presidents had reached Putin’s desk.

“He was informed, but we are not going to anticipate events,” Peskov said succinctly to the local press. According to the spokesman, Russia “does not have official communication channels with Ukraine” through which Kiev could send a document.

Furthermore, Peskov expressed confidence that the current pause in negotiations with US mediation, which has been going on since February due to the war in Iran, will end as soon as possible.
