Peru 2026 Elections: Peruvians in the United States voted without incident in the second round

To meet this demand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs enabled 23 voting centers in the United States, distributed in different cities and coordinated through the Peruvian consular network. The deployment is part of the organization of 219 voting locations installed in 75 countries to guarantee the vote of Peruvians residing abroad.

According to Ambassador Pedro Bravo, general director of Peruvian Communities Abroad and Consular Affairs, at 12:20 pm (Lima time) 100% of tables installed in the world were reached and the last ones to remain operational were precisely in US territory, exactly in San Francisco. This completed the installation process planned for the day.

“In the United States, election day has developed normally, it has been totally normal. We paid special attention to the tables in Orlando and Paterson, where there were some inconveniences in the first round. And everything has gone very well, all the tables set up,” Bravo noted.

Reinforcement in Orlando and Paterson

The authorities had paid special attention to Orlando and Paterson after the difficulties registered during the first round, when the influx of voters exceeded initial forecasts. For this second round, staff was reinforced and officials from other diplomatic representations were mobilized to support the organization.

“More people came than we thought in the first round, so the staff was strengthened. We have sent personnel from other embassies or representations to support Orlando and also Paterson,” the ambassador explained.

Bravo also highlighted the participation of citizens who voluntarily collaborated in the installation and operation of the voting tables, a key task to ensure the development of the process in a country with a wide geographical dispersion of the Peruvian community.

The diplomat considered that the experience of this second round has allowed better coordination between the Foreign Ministry and the electoral bodies. Likewise, he pointed out that the process abroad faces different challenges than those in the national territory, due to factors such as distances, the working conditions of the table members and logistical limitations.

“It is generally thought that the Foreign Ministry can do the same thing that the ONPE or the National Elections Jury does in Peru, but that is not the case. It is very complicated due to the rules and different conditions. The geographical dispersion of Peruvians is not the same as in Peru,” he stated.

The Foreign Ministry supervised the day through an Abroad Voting Monitoring Center, created to follow in real time the installation of tables, the vote, the counting and the transfer of electoral material. The objective was to ensure that the process developed normally in the main Peruvian communities around the world.
