Kurt Krömer is moving to ZDF with a new show: The final hour will soon strike

This statement makes you happy: “Kurt Krömer is really keen on watching television again.” But you also have to see who it comes from: Oliver Heidemann, head of entertainment at ZDF. In an interview with the industry service “dwdl”, Heidemann announced the return of the “neoclown”, as Krömer describes himself, on television. Krömer had made himself rare there in recent years.

Krömer stuff

The new show, which does not yet have a start date, will be called “Krömer’s Last Hour” and will be produced by a Cologne production company for ZDFneo and the ZDF streaming portal. According to Heidemann, four episodes are initially planned, in which Krömer “will welcome two guests each to a mixture of talk and games.” Krömer will do Krömer things, everything a bit unpredictable, funny anyway, but also with a good dose of seriousness.

That all sounds very Krömer-like and like the concept with which he had more and more success at the RBB. The station made Krömer great – and Krömer made RBB especially. “The Kurt Krömer Show”, “Bei Krömers” or “Krömer – The International Show” – the station’s collaboration with Alexander Bojcan aka Kurt Krömer has been fruitful time and time again.

By the end of 2022, the now 51-year-old finally succeeded with “Chez Krömer”, a TV cross-examination in which the host made no secret of his dislike for many of his guests. The ending in the 41st episode was legendary when Krömer broke off the encounter with comedian Faisal Kawusi. His “need for assholes” is covered.

It’s nice that Krömer is interested in watching television again. It’s less nice that he wants to do it on ZDF and not on RBB or via RBB on ARD. The profit for ZDF is the loss for the RBB. But he doesn’t want to prevent future collaboration with Krömer. So it is announced that “we remain connected to him and wish him all the best for his new show on ZDF”. This is what an invitation to return looks like.

The humor section at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg is not brilliantly staffed. “Wrong, but different funny” is okay, but the “shining factor” is Dieter Nuhr, who wins a lot of audience with his brutal political populism. With RBB-Krömer, RBB-Nuhr was easier to endure.

If you want to experience what the RBB has lost with Kurt Krömer’s move, you can currently tune in to the “Krömer – Late Night Show” on RBB television. As a repetition, of course.
