The “Nursery Law” promoted by ultra-Orthodox parties has been approved for first reading

The bill establishes that the nursery subsidy will be determined only on the basis of the employment of the child’s mother, regardless of whether the father is working. In this case, the amount of income will be taken into account for both parents in the amount, which gives an advantage to families in which the woman works and the man does not.

At the request of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, an article was added to the bill establishing priority for reservists when enrolling in nurseries and determining the amount of the subsidy.

The Ministry of Justice noted that even if the law is adopted, the support criteria will not allow providing benefits to a family in which the husband has not regularized his status in relation to the IDF.
