Ireland at the Eurogroup: enough fossils, focus on renewables

In today’s Eurogroup in Luxembourg “we will have the opportunity to discuss energy. Europe must free itself from fossil fuels pollutants”. This was underlined by the Irish Finance Minister Simon Harrison the sidelines of the meeting of euro area ministers in Luxembourg.

“We have already seen two energy crises in five years – he adds – both with economic consequences for Europe and for Ireland, and this is due to our excessive dependence from fossil fuels, from decisions made by people living thousands of miles away.”

Therefore, he concludes, “we must accelerate the transition to renewable energy, and we must accelerate our energy security, both in Ireland and in the European Union”. Also the Finnish colleague Rikka Purra he said Europe must “accelerate” the energy transition towards renewables.
