Bačić revealed: Vjesnik’s skyscraper will be demolished by mid-July

“According to our information, Slavonska should be completely passable again on Tuesday morning because all the elements on the high floors that threatened to fall onto the road have been removed,” said Bačić.

It is planned that each floor will be removed for approximately one day, so by mid-July the skyscraper should be completely removed.

As for the future of the location where Vjesnik was, Bačić told the journalists that the state owns 64 percent of the complex, and is ready to buy the remaining co-owned shares after assessing the value of the property.

“We are ready to buy that complex in its entirety and build new premises for the work of state bodies, primarily ministries and other state institutions,” he said.

He also announced the implementation of an architectural competition for the arrangement of space at one of the city’s most frequent intersections, at the junction of Savska cesta, Slavonska avenue and Zagrebačka avenue.

“We want to make a really beautiful and high-quality object at that intersection, which is why we are preparing the project assignment for an architectural competition in order to find the best solution in accordance with the General Urban Plan of Zagreb,” said Bačić.

The state plans to move part of the ministries, agencies and other state bodies that are currently using leased premises to the new complex, in order to reduce the costs of state administration rent.
