The Minister of Economy Luis Caputo announced that the national public sector had a surplus in May and that with the first five months of the year, the Government accumulated 0.7% of GDP of fiscal surplus, half of what was committed to the International Monetary Fund.
According to the data released by the economic portfolio, the primary result reached $1.92 billionwhile the financial surplus was $478,613 millionafter accounting for debt interest payments of $1.45 trillion.
According to the Ministry of Economy, in the first five months of 2026 the public sector accumulated a primary surplus equivalent to approximately 0.7% of GDP and a financial surplus of 0.2% of the product. The annual goal with the IMF is 1.4% of the Gross Product.
“Order in public accounts contributes to economic stability and allows us to continue returning resources to the private sector in the form of lower taxes,” posted the head of the Treasury Palace.
In the same report, EconomÃa indicated that total primary spending fell 2.2% year-on-year in real terms during May. However, he highlighted that some social items showed increases above inflation: expenditures allocated to the Universal Child Allowance grew 8.6% in real terms year-on-year and contributory retirements and pensions increased 1.2%.
