La Jornada: Carlos Torres assumes the direction of Nafin and Bancomext

Carlos Torres Rosas took office as the new general director of Nacional Financiera (Nafin) and the National Bank of Foreign Trade (Bancomext) this June 16, after being appointed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

Almost 20 days after tax sources confirmed that the former general coordinator of Comprehensive Programs for Development would head the development bank in the country, Torres Rosas assumed the position left by Roberto Lazzeri, who is now Mexico’s ambassador to the United States.

Upon assuming office, Torres Rosas indicated that he will work so that Nafin and Bancomext increasingly serve the development of the country, in the context of financing Plan México, with the promotion of projects that generate well-being and strengthen the moral economy.

In a statement, the development banks stated that their new owner has a degree in business administration from the University of Bath, in the United Kingdom, and studied finance and investments at the Rotterdam School of Administration of Erasmus University, in the Netherlands.

Until June 15, Torres Rosas served as technical secretary of the cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic and general coordinator of Programs for Wellbeing, whose responsibilities include the physical and financial monitoring of priority programs and projects of the government of Mexico.

In that position, he was responsible for following up on compliance with agreements and instructions of the federal Executive with public agencies and entities, as well as coordinating the planning, execution and evaluation of the work of the delegations of the Wellbeing Programs in the states.
