“Cancellation button”: Withdrawal from online purchases is much easier

So that should Customers online businesses just as easy can undohow they were completed. Until now, the option was often hidden in the small print or it was necessary to actively contact the company to withdraw.

The regulation applies to all contracts that consumers conclude with companies online and for which there is a statutory right of withdrawal. These include online webshops, but also contracts concluded via internet platforms, apps or game consoles, the Chamber of Commerce informs on its website.

No change to the right of withdrawal itself

The new regulation does not change the right of withdrawal itself or the statutory withdrawal period of generally 14 days. As before, there are exceptions to the statutory right of withdrawal for tailor-made or perishable goods.

The EU-wide requirement will apply from June 19th, but not all Austrian online shops will have a cancellation button yet. The corresponding law is delayed in Austria. According to the Ministry of Justice, it should come into force by the end of the year at the latest, reports the Ö1 “Morgenjournal”.
