De la Espriella appeals to “fervor” and “change politics” after voting in the Colombian elections

The Colombian far-right candidate, Abelardo de la Espriella, has voted in the second round of the presidential elections being held this Sunday in Colombia and has assured that his objective is to “change politics forever”, for which he has appealed to the “fervor” of the population.

“We came to change politics forever,” said De la Espriella from the La Enseñanza School, in the north of Barranquilla. “I came to solve people’s problems. José Manuel Restrepo – your candidate for vice president – and I did not come to do the usual politics,” he assured.

The candidate of the Defenders of the Homeland movement has highlighted the importance of the vote. “Today is the most important game in the history of Colombia because today we are risking our freedom and the future of our children,” he stressed.

He has also attacked his rival, Iván Cepeda, from the left-wing coalition Historic Pact. “José Manuel and I represent freedom, democracy, institutionality. Cepeda represents tyranny and we have to defeat him today with the fervor of the Colombian people,” he said.

This Sunday at 8:00 a.m. (3:00 p.m. in mainland Spain) the polls have opened for the second round of the presidential elections in Colombia in which the far-right Abelardo de la Espriella and the leftist Iván Cepeda are vying for the Presidency.
