Remote work maintains its consolidation in Spainwhere more than half of professionals (53%) lean towards hybrid models or with a greater presence of teleworking, a trend that is reinforced with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, which help speed up work while maintaining productivity and even reinforce the debate about the four-day work day.
Currently, more than 3.3 million people work from home at least a few days a week, according to data collected from the National Statistics Institute (INE) and the Active Population Survey (EPA).
In parallel, 53 percent of professionals states that prefer a fully remote model or a hybrid scheme with most days working remotely, according to the recent ‘Zoom Survey: Teleworking, AI and the Four-Day Workweek’, conducted in June 2026.
These figures show that Labor flexibility has been consolidated as a preference and demand of workers in the Spanish labor market and not as a specific measure, something that is reflected both in people’s habits and in the way in which productivity and efficiency are understood in modern companies.
Adoption rates vary significantly by sector. In technology, information and communications, remote work exceeds 60 percentwhile in professional, scientific and technical services it reaches around 50 percent, according to INE data. On the other hand, sectors such as logistics and tourism continue to depend mainly on in-person work.
THE INFLUENCE OF TELEWORK ON TRAFFIC
The Zoom survey also shows that remote work is beginning to influence behavior beyond the workplace. About 32 percent of respondents say they use this flexibility to travel or extend your trips during periods such as summer.
Additionally, 71 percent of professionals support encouraging remote work during large public events, such as the Pope’s recent visit to Madrid, as a way to reduce urban congestion. This data reinforces the idea that work flexibility not only helps people organize their schedules, but can also relieve the pressure of daily transportation in cities.
Support is even greater in a context of energy uncertainty. 90 percent of Spaniards would be in favor of expanding remote work to reduce energy consumption derived from displacement, while 64 percent consider that it should be established as a permanent option.
TIME MANAGEMENT WITH AI
Along with the growth of remote work, the Artificial intelligence has quickly become part of daily professional life. 68 percent of workers in Spain consider that this technology is very useful or even essential for their daily activities.
Although information search and content summary remain two of its most recognized applications, the survey highlights that its ability to automate routine tasks and transform information into action is increasingly valued, helping work move more efficiently from idea to execution.
Common use cases include the investigation (65%), summary of long documents (36%), automating follow-up tasks after virtual meetings (25%) y writing emails (24%).
However, its most tangible impact is in time management. 83 percent of those surveyed affirm save between 30 minutes and three hours per week with these tools. This time is mainly reinvested in advancing other projects (49%), improving the balance between personal and professional life (19%), training and professional development (15%) or disconnecting from work (16.3%).
As Zoom CEO Eric Yuan has noted, artificial intelligence has the potential to enable shorter workweeks without compromising productivity, driving the debate on the four-day week.
This trend is already influencing the perception of working time. 81 percent of Spaniards believe that AI can facilitate the transition to this model, while 34 percent consider that working three or four days a week is a realistic possibility in the next five years.
