The mayor of Panama revealed that he put trackers on the donations he sent to Venezuela to ensure they reach those who need them

Mizrachi stated that he placed ‘AirTags’, small tracking devices in humanitarian aid packages. He said he did it for be able to be accountable to citizens that in a “massive effort” they made the donations.

He specified that the devices are “within different supplies, from a box of diapers, a box of water bottles to a box of detergents”so that “they go on different pallets (planks where the cargo is packed), on different flights, and I can always respond to my citizens on which flight it was and if it has already arrived.”

The municipal head explained to the Spanish news agency EFE that he could locate “four (airtags) that are in La Guaira and one that is not in La Guaira, which is in Maturín.”

“I am not knowledgeable about Venezuelan geography, so I have no competence to interpret what I am seeing (…) For a day and a half, we have not seen any activity with that ‘tag’ that was left in Maturín“added the mayor of Panama.

The mayor referred to the “different interpretations” that are being given to the information on the location of the tracked humanitarian aidand expressed that, “as a person who is in the political sphere”, where “there is always conspiracy” he prefers “never misunderstand and look first for the most logical, most benevolent reasoning.”

“For example, perhaps there is a displaced person who is homeless, someone gave him the box (that has the tag) and he ended up with a relative there in Maturín. I want to think well, I will always opt for that. If I didn’t think well, we wouldn’t be sending another plane with 18 tons on Tuesday.”

The Mayor’s Office of Panama collaborated in the collection, made by citizens last week, of some 100 tons of humanitarian aidof which more than half has already been sent to Venezuela. This aid is added to other contributions from the national government and Panamanian public institutions that have also been sent to the South American country.

Seeing the situation reported by Mizrachi, a user of He went to Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno to find out if the country’s donations had “arrived at their destination.”

Quirno posted a response on his X account where he simply stated: “This is why we are not sending private donations. Everything we offer as help is validated and requested by the Venezuelan government depending on their priorities and needs.

At least 3,342 people died as a result of the double earthquake, of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, while 16,740 were injured and 17,345 lost their homes, according to the Government, which has not given figures on missing persons.
