Trump abandons toll in Hormuz

In a post on the Truth Social network, the American president said he backed down because countries allied with the Americans in the Persian Gulf announced that they would make large investments in the United States.

“Based on highly productive conversations with Middle Eastern leaders, I have decided to replace the 20% reimbursement rate owed to the United States by trade and investment agreements that the various Gulf States will make in the country,” Trump wrote.

“These investments will be HUGE, but at the same time, extraordinarily beneficial for them and their future,” added the Republican president.

In a message on the Truth Social network on Monday (13), Trump said he will once again impose a naval blockade on Iranian ports, amid the return of fighting between the two countries, and announced the toll in Hormuz.

The 20% tax would be applied to all cargo transported through the sea passage, regardless of country, under the argument that the United States needed to be compensated “for all costs necessary to guarantee the security of this very unstable region of the world”.

About 20% of the world’s oil and natural gas prewar transited through the Strait of Hormuz, whose administration replaced Iran’s nuclear program as the focus of the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran.

Fighting has resumed in recent days due to attacks on commercial vessels in the region carried out by the Islamic regime, which maintains plans for military control and charging tolls in Hormuz.
