Igor Skibyuk appointed chief of the general staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky announced that Major General Igor Skibyuk will become the new chief of the general staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to Zelensky, the decision was made jointly with the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mikhail Drapaty, and the commander of the Special Operations Forces, Yevhen Khmara. The decree on personnel changes is being prepared for signing.

From February 2024 to June 2025, Skibyuk commanded the air assault forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Previously, he headed the 80th separate air assault brigade and served as chief of staff – deputy commander of the Airborne Forces. In June 2025, Skibuk was appointed deputy chief of the general staff.

Skibyuk has the title of Hero of Ukraine, awarded to him in 2022. His appointment takes place as part of Zelensky’s renewal of the top command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: a day earlier, the president announced that Mykhailo Drapaty would become the new commander-in-chief.
