One year before the start of the America’s Cupwhich in 2027 will arrive in Italy for the first time, in Naples, sailing proves to be increasingly inclusive, arriving in Caivano and symbolically bringing the sea where there is no sea.
At the “Pino Daniele” Sports Center, has become, thanks to the vision and commitment of the Italian Government, a true sports hub not for citizens, but of citizens, over 350 children at the Illumina Camp had the opportunity to approach an educational and team-building discipline. The initiative, promoted in collaboration by the Minister for Sport and Youth, Sport and Health and by the Italian Sailing Federation, with the involvement of FIV Campania, transformed the swimming pool of the sports center into an original regatta field. Two Optimist boats, the training boat par excellence, “sailed” thanks to a system of specially sized fans, capable of generating artificial wind and making “navigation” possible. An experience as original as it was engaging, which allowed the young participants to experience the emotions of sailing in total safety. Enthusiasm, curiosity and great participation accompanied the entire day, under the guidance of the instructors of Fiv Campania, who transformed a simple moment of testing into a fun and educational journey thanks to the precious collaboration of the Circolo Nautico Arcobaleno Torre Annunziata; of the Mascalzone Latino Sailing School; of the Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia.
The event was attended by Diego Nepi Molineris, CEO of Sport and Health; Flavio Siniscalchi, Head of the Department for Sport of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers delegated by the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi; Pasquale Orofino, President of the V Zone FIV Campania; Antonio Angelino, Mayor of Caivano. Also present was Nicola Perrone, manager of the “Pino Daniele” Sports Center: “Sailing is increasingly for everyone and for everyone. After the memorandum of understanding signed last May in Cagliari between Sport e Salute and the Italian Sailing Federation, with the aim of bringing this sport closer to an ever-increasing number of young people, schools and families, the Caivano event represents a concrete testimony of the path started towards the America’s Cup. Bringing sailing to the “Pino Daniele” Sports Center, managed by Sport and Salute and from the Fiamme Oro, means shortening distances and creating new opportunities through sport, offering hundreds of children and young people the opportunity to discover a discipline capable of teaching collaboration, respect for the rules and the environment, determination and a sense of responsibility. Because sailing does not just teach you how to steer a boat: it teaches you to listen to the wind, to know and respect the sea and nature, to share the journey with others without leaving anyone behind an America’s Cup that aims to be not only a great sporting event, but an opportunity for growth, inclusion and participation”.
