“If you say tomorrow that he sucks, I’ll be gone”: new national coach Jürgen Klopp warns the media

Jürgen Klopp started his new job as national football coach with a warning to the media. “If you misbehave or don’t leave my family alone, I’m gone,” said Klopp when he was introduced as coach of the German national team in Frankfurt am Main.

“If you say tomorrow that he’s shit, then I’m gone,” said the 59-year-old, adding that there would have to be several critics, one person wouldn’t be enough. He doesn’t want any severance pay either. “I’m not doing this against you, but for you.”

Klopp, who signed a contract with the German Football Association until the summer of 2030, had previously expressed his surprise that details about his new job had already been reported in recent weeks.

Klopp explained that he feels an obligation to all football fans. “I already had an idea how big the position of national coach is. But when you are directly associated with it, you feel the size and responsibility even more.”
