At least 14 people, including military personnel, police officers and a provincial forest department official, were killed in a suicide attack at a security force post in Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan.
According to sources in law enforcement agencies, on the evening of July 23, the terrorist detonated an explosive device while in a car bomb near the checkpoint. As a result of the explosion, the post was completely destroyed.
Among the dead were nine military personnel, four police officers and a forest department employee. At least 24 more people, including 20 military personnel and four police officers, were injured and taken to hospitals. The death toll may rise: three servicemen are believed to remain under the rubble.
Security forces later killed three militants in an operation in the surrounding area.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. An investigation is underway.
