Salzburg Festival: “Just one summer, you mighty ones!”

WIf one didn’t know that the director was fired, one could speak of a completely normal Salzburg Festival. Perhaps even particularly exciting and demanding, because so far the artistic program has ranged between highly interesting and extremely exciting. Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” with the fantastic Asmik Grigorian, for example, subverts every folkloric cliché of this well-known opera in a dark, deathly manner. Despite the challenging dance and physical direction by Gabriela Carrizo (“Peeping Tom”), there is an incredible run on this production, and the social surroundings are also running smoothly.
