Lithuania does not rule out that the Russian attack that affected its Embassy in kyiv was deliberate

Lithuanian authorities have not ruled out that the damage suffered by their Embassy in Kiev last Saturday during a series of Russian attacks was deliberate, as another way for Russia to put pressure on Ukraine’s allies.

“This possibility cannot be ruled out either, although we cannot yet say it with certainty,” Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys said this Tuesday during an interview for the public broadcaster LRT.

Russia launched an attack on kyiv during the night of Friday to Saturday, which killed nine and left around thirty injured. Although Moscow argued that the target was a center that manufactured components for Ukrainian missiles and arsenal, the bombings damaged the Lithuanian Embassy facilities.

Budrys explained that the closest target to the diplomatic headquarters and that “Russia is constantly trying to reach” is a power plant that is located a kilometer and a half away. “Everything else is residential,” he noted.

In this sense, the minister highlighted that Russian forces used Zircon supersonic missiles, designed to attack ships. “They are terrifying weapons. We have no idea what they were aiming at because there is nothing in the area,” he said.

“Perhaps the objective was to pressure, to intimidate, but I can say that it completely failed,” he stressed, while confirming that a formal apology has not yet been received from the Kremlin, which has ignored it with the argument that Lithuania had been warned of the attacks that were looming over Kiev.

That was what Budrys extracted, as he explained, from the appearance of the Russian representative in Vilnius, who was summoned to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey a formal complaint about the events. “There were no apologies,” he said.
