China’s commercial “superweapon” threatened the world – then suddenly just disappeared

LOGINK’s global flagship partnerships were frozen, the platform withdrew from an international maritime association, and the company was mired in a wave of domestic lawsuits over unpaid bills. On a visit last month to the company’s operations center in the Chinese coastal city of Wenzhou, the offices looked completely deserted: the lights were off, the reception desk was empty, and computer cables had been ripped out of place.

LOGINK’s withdrawal from the international arena is a severe blow for Beijing, which is conducting a persistent struggle against Washington for control of the infrastructure and technologies that support global shipping, a sector responsible for 80% of international trade. The collapse is welcomed in the United States, which contributed to the platform’s change in fortunes through a public attack. US officials and security experts have expressed concern that China will use the system to collect confidential information on goods and prices, and even track sensitive military shipments, including US weapons to Ukraine and Taiwan. A US State Department spokesman even clarified that Washington will not allow the platform controlled by Beijing to “get a stranglehold on global maritime data”.

The results of the pressure campaign were not long in coming. LOGINK’s participation in the International Ant Community Systems Association (IPCSA) project was terminated in 2024, and its official website was taken down around that time. At the same time, contacts with ports in Europe were frozen, and Japan’s access to data was blocked without warning.

Within China itself, the corporation that stands behind the platform is now facing at least 39 lawsuits totaling approximately 1.3 million dollars, due to labor disputes, non-payment of infrastructure and even a lawsuit on behalf of the communications giant “China Mobile” from October 2025. The company is now also facing the risk of eviction. As the offices gather dust, the party slogan still emblazoned on the wall in Wenzhou, which promises to “leverage global supply chains” by 2035, looks more distant and hopeless than ever.
