Golden League: Handball players beat European Championship runners-up Denmark

The best German player was goalkeeper Katharina Filter with 14 saves. The German team will have to prove themselves again against the Netherlands on Sunday (1:30 p.m.).

Germany with strong defensive performance

Unlike last time, the German defense coped well with the loss of Xenia Smits and only conceded four goals in the first 14 minutes. Despite some inaccuracies in attack, the World Cup runner-up pulled ahead to 8:4 thanks to powerful throws from Emily Vogel and Viola Leuchter. Denmark repeatedly failed due to their own mistakes or DHB goalkeeper Filter.

As a result, Germany allowed itself a short phase of weakness and rarely got into good throwing positions. But because Denmark also lost a lot of the ball and Nieke Kühne and Alexia Hauf turned up the heat, the DHB team extended its lead to 15:9.

After the break, the German offensive was extremely weak and Anna Kristensen excelled in the Danish goal. The DHB lead shrank to 17:16 in the 45th minute. Five minutes before the end of the game, Germany was back in the lead 22:19 thanks to Annika Lott. Goalkeeper Filter held on to win.

Who will Germany face at the European Championships?

On Friday, Gaugisch will announce his expanded European Championship squad. At the end of November there are two top-class test matches against France before the DHB team makes its way to Bratislava. There the German selection will meet Sweden, Serbia and Slovakia in the European Championship preliminary round.
