Booking under hacker attack, reservations at risk. What happened

Booking.com suffered a data breach which allowed subjects unauthorized to access some information relating to customer reservations. The platform reported that it had detected “suspicious activity” involving third parties able to consult some of the user data.

The measures adopted

“After identifying the anomaly, we took measures to contain the problem,” the company explained, adding that it had updated the PIN codes associated with reservations interested and to have informed the customers involved. The group, based in Amsterdam, did not say how many users were affected, but it has excluding that financial data has been compromised.

Potentially accessible information

In a communication sent to interested parties, the company indicated that potentially accessible information includes booking details, names, email addresses, telephone numbers and other data possibly shared with accommodation facilities.
