Fuel prices: Sébastien Lecornu announces a new “aid package” in May for the most affected sectors

The government is planning an “aid package” in May for the sectors most affected by the surge in fuel prices. This new boost could concern farmers, fishermen or road hauliers.

“This afternoon, I gave instructions to the various members of the government to prepare a next aid package for (…) the month of May,” the Prime Minister declared to the press. “We said that our aid was renewable with always the same philosophy, support for activity by sector,” he added.

“I even hope that for certain professions, we probably go a little further because endurance becomes difficult”, while the repercussions of the war in the Middle East have been felt for almost two months.

Fishing and construction in the spotlight

At the end of March, the government announced a plan of nearly 70 million euros, targeted and limited to the month of April.

The Prime Minister notably mentioned the case of “fishermen”, who for “some are starting to express the fact that it will become complicated to get out, despite the help that we have already put on the table”. He also pointed out “an issue regarding the construction industry” and its vehicles powered by non-road diesel (NGR), “on which I hope that the ministers can make proposals”.

Friday morning, Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot had already suggested that the aid would be renewed in May, specifying that the current plan would come into full force next week.
