The United States benefits greatly from Israel’s dependence on various systems produced by it, such as airplanes, and not only in the economic aspect: the Air Force is pushing its means to the limit, and demonstrating capabilities that were not expected. At the same time, the United States is paying various prices for the war in Iran, including the fall of technologies in territories that were happy because they would not fall into them. About all this and more in the weekly defense industries corner of Globes.

The Air Force is teaching the US to use planes made by it
Operation Hari’s Roar was another display of purpose by the Air Force, which dominated the skies of Iran without suffering any casualties or intercepted aircraft. The most prominent in this activity was the F-35 in its Israeli variant – “Adir”. Although it is an American-made aircraft, the only country that used it in operational activities on a particularly large scale is Israel. These attacks put the Air Force in a position where the US in general and Lockheed Martin in particular, who manufacture the planes, are learning from Israel about their use.
Similar to all Air Force aircraft, Adir includes unique systems that Israel has implemented in them – mainly in terms of software, intelligence and integration with the Israeli command and control systems. This allows, according to the ZM website, to significantly reduce the time between target detection and neutralization. The South American website also reports that Israel has broken agreements regarding the scope and rate of operation of American fifth generation aircraft.
While F-35 aircraft are considered to have significant maintenance needs and long time intervals between different missions, Israel has managed to reduce this drastically. This happened, according to ZM, with the help of arranging the missions in a more efficient way, which allowed more sorties per aircraft. In this way, the Air Force increased the pressure on the Iranians for about a month and a half of fighting.
A THAAD homing system has fallen in Syria
An infrared homing system of the THAAD interceptor, which is used to passively guide the missile, was located in Syria. This is reported on the TWZ website. This is a very problematic situation that sometimes constitutes the necessity of reality in wars when advanced technology falls into the hands of elements in the US that would prefer not to have it. From the Syrian regime the homing system may end up in the hands of Turkey, and from there the road to reverse engineering is not long.
The THAAD system (acronym for “high-altitude spatial defense”) was developed by Lockheed Martin. The system is designed to intercept ballistic missiles, and hits threats directly to intercept them (Hit to Kill). It became widely known in Israel, when in October 2024 the Americans decided to deploy a battery here. It is possible that it was intercepted by a launcher from Israeli territory, against a threat launched from Iran.
The homing system was reportedly located in Sweida in southern Syria, with another possibility being that it was a THAAD interceptor launched from Jordan. The infrared guidance is designed to enable precise guidance to the target in the final stage of the interception. The main advantage is that it is immune to jamming measures, designed to confuse the system with the radar signature of the real threat.
Bahrain celebrates the interception of an Iranian drone
At the beginning of this month, an F-16 of the Bahraini Air Force made a historic interception of an Iranian UAV that was launched towards the Kingdom. This is reported on the Aviation Week website. Israel has a lot of experience in intercepting Iranian UAVs, but this is not the case in the Gulf, which received significant hits and are not really used to dealing with them. Therefore, for Manama this is a noteworthy event, even though it is an asymmetric war in which the air-to-air weaponry that hit the UAV is significantly more expensive.
Bahrain received its new F-16s in March 2024, when the relatively large mass of air-to-air weapons they purchased in 2019 included 32 “Sidewinder” missiles and 32 “Amraam” missiles. The Bahraini variant of the F-16 includes an APG-83 radar made by Northrop Grumman and an AAQ target designation pod by Lockheed Martin, which also manufactures the aircraft itself.
A new CEO for the Tomer company
Dotan Gabbai was appointed CEO of Tomer, a government defense company that is a national knowledge center for rocket propulsion. Gabbai replaced Mordechai Ben Ami who is retiring, at the end of ten years in office.
The appointment was recently approved by the committee to review senior appointments according to the Government Companies Law headed by Judge Shulamit Dotan. After that, Defense Minister Israel Katz and the Minister in charge of the Companies Authority Dodi Amsalem approved the recommendation of the search committee of the board of directors headed by Roni Moreno for his election as CEO of Tomer.
In the last decade, Gabbay served in a variety of positions in the company as secretary of the board of directors, as vice president of marketing and business development, and in the last year as deputy general manager of Tomer.
Tomer develops the engines for a variety of defensive and offensive missiles in the air, at sea, on land and in space and in between – the Arrow missile engines, the Horizon satellite engines and engines for a variety of rockets – Rampage, Bar and Barak MX – which are carried out in all combat arenas. The company employs about 950 people, and its sales turnover is about NIS 780 million.
In recent years, Tomer has expanded its activities in innovative production lines for the production of engines for missiles and rockets, with the aim of providing a quick response in production and supplies to the IDF and to the projects of its customers in Israel and abroad.
