Sun Group cooperates with Keppel to ‘green’ tourist destinations

The signing ceremony took place on April 28. This milestone contributes to consolidating and deepening the journey of standardizing ESG – a trio of standards measuring environmental, social and governance factors, to evaluate the sustainable development and impact of businesses on the community of Sun Group. At the same time, the event established a new reference system for smart energy operations for all Sun Group destinations.

Accordingly, Sun Group and Keppel established a relationship based on four technological pillars, applied to Sun Group projects nationwide. Notably, the Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) solution – a strength of Keppel, aims to directly solve Sun Group’s operational problems, save energy and realize the commitment to reduce carbon emissions throughout the system.

In parallel, the two units will coordinate to promote clean energy solutions such as exploiting solar energy, building electric vehicle charging stations… These solutions are deployed synchronously at Sun Group’s destinations, aiming to build green and sustainable tourist destinations, especially Phu Quoc with Hon Thom, which will become model “green islands”. Prioritizing clean transportation infrastructure aims to minimize environmental impact while creating a zero-emission resort space.

The cooperation also includes the application of a smart energy management system (Smart EMS) to manage the entire complex infrastructure at the destinations. This solution helps control energy consumption effectively, minimize waste and improve mining efficiency, while also creating the foundation for a sustainable, synchronized operating model across the ecosystem. This is considered an important step in the enterprise’s strategy of perfecting large-scale infrastructure management capacity according to international standards.

In the context of sustainable tourism becoming a new measure of the global economy, standardizing destinations according to LEED or Green Mark standards is both a commitment to responsibility and a strategic “passport” for Sun Group to conquer the elite customer segment and affirm its position with international partners.

In the domestic context, Vietnam is also promoting energy transition and sustainable development. Resolution No. 55-NQ/TW on the orientation of the National Energy Development Strategy emphasizes the need to develop a sustainable energy system, prioritize renewable energy, use energy economically and efficiently, and promote the application of advanced technology in the energy field.

Therefore, according to the unit, the cooperation with Keppel also affirms Sun Group’s companionship with national commitments at the COP26 and COP28 Conferences, aiming to realize the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 through a green, smart and sustainable energy transition roadmap.

Ms. Nguyen Vu Quynh Anh – Deputy General Director of Sun Group, General Director of the Group’s Entertainment – Resort Division, said that through this cooperation, green technology and smart energy solutions will become the core foundation for Sun Group to raise operating standards, affirm its commitment to ESG and develop sustainable tourism in Vietnam. “These are also specific actions for Sun Group to accompany Phu Quoc and Vietnam to prepare for APEC 2027,” she said.

The unit emphasized that, beyond creating iconic works or world-class shows, Sun Group is establishing a management platform based on the ESG reference system. The business pursues the philosophy of development in harmony with nature: minimal intervention, maximum respect and preservation of existing values. This philosophy has been realized through many projects, from InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort with architecture hidden in the forest, to roads that bend according to the terrain, retaining every tree and rock in Phu Quoc or Sa Pa.

According to Sun Group, cooperation with Keppel continues to help businesses take this philosophy further, as technology becomes a tool to optimize operations, reduce environmental impact and expand a sustainable approach across the ecosystem.
