Ashdod resident accused of counterfeiting .5 million worth of banknotes

The Southern District Prosecutor’s Office submitted to the Beersheba Magistrate’s Court an indictment against 56-year-old Ashdod resident Shabtai Koren, accused of counterfeiting banknotes on a large scale.

According to the indictment, in 2024, Koren purchased a Xerox XV80 copier and related equipment to counterfeit dollar bills, including special forms and a money counting machine.

He kept all the equipment at home, where he carried out his activities. According to investigators, by January 2, 2025, Koren had produced 29,890 $50 bills for a total of $1,494,500. The banknotes were packed in cardboard boxes, 100 bills in each pack.
