“Living better later”: in the savings of Tony, a financial influencer who wants to retire around 40

Tony’s goal is clear: to enjoy life without working, as soon as possible. At just 24 years old, the young man who lives in the Paris region with his parents, wants to “retire” around the age of 40. A tech executive, he hopes to make a living from his investments within a few years. To do this, he was inspired by the Fire movement – “Financial independence, retire early” or in French “Independance économique, retirement supérieur” – popularized in the 1990s in the United States.

But there’s no question of Tony forgetting to enjoy the present moment either. “Before‚ I was super frugal. For me, spending was something unthinkable,” explains the young man. “You have to find a happy medium between frugality and spending on things you like,” he adds today. “That’s why I spend a lot on food because I don’t have rent yet, it’s a way to please myself.”
