The liquidation of foreign currency by exporters of grains and derivatives registered a monthly rise of 7% in May compared to April until reaching the US$2,677 millionreported the Chamber of the Oil Industry and the Cereal Exporters Center (Ciara-CEC).
In this way, the income of dollars grew compared to last month in US$182 millionthanks to the constant entry of the coarse crop into the commercial circuit, with important advances in soybeans.
Despite the monthly improvement, the dollars received by the sector continue to be below last year’s records. According to the business chamber, both the accumulated figures for the first five months and the year-on-year comparison are still negative.
In this sense, exporters reported that In the January-May period, US$ 10,343 million entered, 12% below the same period in 2025..
From Ciara-CEC they explained that the increase in foreign currency income in May compared to April was due to “a growth in shipments and reception of trucks to ports, especially with the recovery of sales of corn for export.”
Nevertheless, “The differences with last year are due to lower international prices in comparative terms”.
Exports
But beyond measuring the value of exports, the truth is that in the first five months there was a record in volume shipped.
In this sense, the Rosario Stock Exchange (BCR) detailed thatBetween January and May, 50.4 million tons were shipped68% as grain and 32% as industrial byproducts – oils, pellets and/or flour.
The main protagonists are the wheat and cornwith 10.6 and 17.1 million tons exported respectively in said period. That is, 67% and 14% more than what was exported for the same height last year.
He sunflower It is also having a very good export performance, with an equivalent external absorption of 3.7 million tons between seeds, oil and flour. Furthermore, since April exports of militarywith 1.9 million tons of grain shipped so far and 13.6 million that were processed to ship soybean oil and meal.
In tandem with a record export rate, the entry of trucks into ports is at a maximum, with 1,313,635 vehicle units entering to unload at ports throughout the country, counting until May 26 of the current year. Of that total, 73.5% are concentrated in the Greater Rosario area (about 965,000 vehicles), almost 200,000 more trucks entering the region than last year.
Harvest
For its part, the coarse grain harvest continues to advance at a steady pace, taking advantage of the fact that almost no rain was recorded in recent weeks in almost the entire national territory.
As reported by the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BdeC), the soybean harvest registered an advance of 10 percentage points (pp) and already covered 84.6% of the suitable surface area nationwide, with an advance of 10 points compared to the previous campaign and 8 points compared to the average of the last five campaigns.
The stock exchange entity indicated that the national average yield was 32.3 quintals per hectare (qq/ha), emerging as the second best historical record after the 2018/19 campaign, while first-class soybeans have already reached 92% of the harvested area, with an average yield of 34.5 qq/ha, while second-class soybeans, with almost 70% harvested, average 26.6 qq/ha.
Under this context, the stock exchange entity maintained its production projection at 50.1 million tons.
As for the cornthe harvest advances slowly while waiting for the harvesting of the oilseed to finish and for the humidity of the grains to decrease.
At the moment, 34.7% of the estimated national total has been harvested, with an average yield of 84.4 qq/ha. Towards the north of the agricultural area, the first advances are reported in the NOA, with results that are around 59 qq/ha.
As for late corn, with 91.7% of the area already at physiological maturity, the first lots harvested in the province of Córdoba are surveyed, with yields between 70 and 85 qq/ha, in line with our current estimate, an issue for which the Buenos Aires stock exchange maintained the harvest estimate at 64 million tons.
