Due to the drop in activity, imports from Brazil fell 21.7% in May

Laos data reflect that Argentine exports to Brazil grew by 2.8% in May 2026 compared to May 2025 (third consecutive month of increase) by adding US$ 1,194 millionwhile imports from that country were US$ 1,326 million and showed a year-on-year drop of 21.7%, giving a deficit trade balance of US$131 million.

According to the report, the year-on-year increase in Argentina’s exports to Brazil in May (2.8%) corresponded mainly to the increase in passenger motor vehicles, aluminum, ethylene polymers in primary form, and liquefied propane and butane.

On the other hand, the drop in Argentine imports (21.7%) was mainly explained byr the decrease in road vehicles, parts and accessories of motor vehicles, vehicles for transporting merchandise and passenger motor vehicles.

So far in 2026, imports have been growing less strongly than they did last year. This change means that although the balance continues to be in deficit in the accumulated of the first five months of the year, it reaches US$ 953 million, far from the red of US$ 2,431 million from the same period of the previous year.

Trade between the two countries has been in deficit for Argentina in the last twenty years. At the same time, it was losing relevance in the provision of merchandise to the neighboring country. With the numbers that are known so far from 2026, Argentina was positioned in fourth place among the largest suppliers to Brazil, behind China and Hong Kong and Macao (US$ 6,799 million), the United States (US$ 3,211 million) and Russia (US$ 1,330 million). In turn, among Brazil’s main buyers, Argentina ranked third, behind China, Hong Kong and Macao (US$ 10,497 million) and the United States (US$ 3,090 million).

Brazil’s exports to the world grew 6.6% in May 2026 compared to 2025, going from US$ 29,920 million to US$ 31,904 million.

For their part, imports increased 5.3% compared to May 2025, going from US$22,860 million a US$24,081 million.

In this way, the Brazilian trade result was a surplus in US$7,823 million and it has been positive for 15 consecutive months.
