MARKETS: Asian markets in decline – artificial intelligence jitters continue

Asian markets saw a sharp decline during the night. South Korea’s Kospi index was down 5.8 percent. Kospi has done quite well in the past. The currency-adjusted increase of the index over the past year is more than 70 percent.

Wall Street fell on Friday along with technology stocks. The AI ​​jitters continued on Monday, and Asian chipmakers were down considerably.

Electronics giant Samsung Electronics was down 7 percent. A semiconductor company SK Hynix was down about 4 percent. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing was down 6.7 percent.

Japan’s Nikkei index was down 3.9 percent and Taiwan’s Taiex index was down 3.5 percent. A Japanese semiconductor company Tokyo Electronin the share was down more than 6 percent.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index was down 1.2 percent.

The prices of Brent and WTI crude oil futures were both up by more than four percent. Iran and Israel hit each other with missiles in the night between Sunday and Monday.

The MSCI All Country World index, which describes the global stock market, was down 0.6 percent.

On the foreign exchange market, the euro was rising compared to most reference currencies.

One euro equals 1.1533 dollars. The dollar gave 160.35 yen.

The Euro Stoxx 600 future was down about one percent. US Index futures fluctuated on both sides of zero.
