The court stopped considering the claim demanding the closure of the BiG shopping center in Glilot on Saturdays

The Tel Aviv District Court rejected a lawsuit seeking to oblige the municipality of Ramat Hasharon to enforce the municipal law prohibiting work on Saturdays in relation to the BiG shopping center in Glilot.

The lawsuit was filed by the Histadrut HaPoel HaMizrachi trade union and one of the businessmen in Ramat Hasharon.

Judge Gilad Has ruled that the claim was barred because the municipality had formulated a policy to implement the law, while stressing that it was impossible to determine at this stage how effective the implementation of the law would be since the policy had only been formed three months ago.

The decision to dismiss the claim was made based on a statement from the Ramat Hasharon council and the city’s mayor that the municipality had prepared a new policy document on businesses operating on the Sabbath. In addition, the municipality has committed to maintaining the current provisions of the city by-law and ensuring their enforcement.

The policy document prepared by the municipality on this issue divided the city into sections and zones, and established different policies for each zone. However, the application tool and policy for each zone have not yet been developed.

In fact, this means maintaining the status quo, in which the shopping center will continue to operate on Saturdays, but not at full capacity.
