Trains and construction sites, the main works in summer 2026

Rfi as the summer exodus of July and August approaches, remember that they are active in Italy 1,300 construction sites per day on the railway network, including major works, ordinary and extraordinary maintenance interventions and technological updates, for a total of 11.6 billion euros of investments in 2025. Per Italian Railway Network this is the highest level ever recorded, a result achieved thanks to the operation of the PNRR and the acceleration of network expansion and maintenance programmes.

Planning of interventions RFI has been defined as “safeguarding, even in the summer period, the main lines of national tourist mobility”. In particular, the routes will remain passable Adriatic e TyrrhenianLiguria and connections to and from Pugliaconsidered strategic for traveler movements during the busiest period. As regards the national railway network, some scheduled construction sites are expected in August which will still guarantee adequate levels of mobility and railway offer, also through alternative itineraries and remodulations of the service.

The main works

HS/AC Milan-Venice line: 2-16 August, 15-day interruption between Verona and Vicenza for construction of the Vicenza crossing and works in the Montebello station with route diversions.

HS/AC Milan-Bologna line

HS/AC Milan-Bologna line: 10-17 August, eight-day interruption between Piacenza Est and Melegnano for renewal of switches and alternative solutions on the conventional Milan-Bologna line.

Milan-Genoa line

Milan-Genoa line: extraordinary maintenance activities on the Po Bridge are planned from 3 June to 30 September. In particular, from 20 July to 28 August, the complete interruption of the line is expected with alternative solutions and extensions of travel times.

AV/AC Florence-Rome line

AV/AC Florence-Rome line: 10-28 August, interruption between Chiusi Sud and Orvieto Nord for maintenance work on the Fabro tunnel and the Paglia viaduct. During construction site activities, trains travel along the conventional line with increased travel times.

Information campaign

The information and communication campaign continues this year too FS Group dedicated to construction sites scheduled for 2026. Through stations, traditional media, digital channels and a dedicated web page, the initiative aims to guarantee timely and widespread information to citizens and stakeholders on the changes to the railway offer caused by infrastructure interventions.
