A life linked to a French race and showing its genetics in Palermo

Each animal, whether of any species or breed, must express all the necessary qualities that justify its presence there. It is not only about a business, but about positioning before your peers, before your competitors.

That’s exactly what it does Juan Pablo Latantiowner of the La Cotidiana cabin and president of the Argentine Association of Limousin Breedersa bovine breed from France, which has exceptional characteristics when it comes to meat production.

Latanti, only 35 years old, manages the reins of a farm that has been dedicated to breeding Limousin for 30 years and has been participating in the Palermo show for the same amount of time.

And this year, the breed was awarded with an achievement that few achieved: entering the first animal into the show. In this case, it was the vaca Tini Tiniwhich was born four years ago in this sample, and its Paul’s calf. As usually happens with these famous people, the lights fell on these animals, taking center stage, along with the sheep Tim Payne.

It is worth mentioning that the cabin was already consecrated with this distinction in 2022, when the first animal also entered: the Nicanor bull.

In dialogue with Clarín RuralLatanti expressed his satisfaction at seeing his animals arrive in Palermo. “I am 35 years old and I remember being here every year as a child. The truth is, it is a pride,” said the cabañero.

“We come to show our production from the countryside to the city. And the important thing about this is not only to compete, but to participate, to share with other producers. Each one has different realities inside. That’s why We come to show our product, our work to the city“Latanti explained.

But, beyond modesty, the truth is that the cabin from the Buenos Aires town of Chenaut, from the Exaltación de la Cruz party, is coming to compete and that is why they brought 14 male and female breeders, who will participate in the swearing and auctions. Among them, Tini Tini and De Paul will compete in the cow with calf category.

The Limousin breed has more than 60 years in the country. In the 1960s, Argentina was one of the first countries to import selected rodeos from France.

“The results obtained in terms of adaptation to the country, its fertility, development and butcher aptitude are supported by more than 50 years of commercial production in establishments in different provinces and environments of the Argentine agricultural geography,” the entity reviewed.

Precisely, this butchery aptitude is what Latanti highlighted. “It is a meat-producing breed that stands out for its hook efficiency.. That means that it yields between 60 and 65% on the hook. When it is slaughtered and sent to the refrigerator, 65% of the animal is meat, compared to other breeds that are 50, 52% or 56%,” he highlighted.

“The truth is that Argentine livestock is looking for efficiency in meat production. This breed is the tool to make crosses, to make that improvement. That efficiency is transmitted by 3 to 5% greater production in any cross over any breed,” Latanti pointed out.

It is worth mentioning that the Argentine Association of Limousin Breeders (AACL) controls the records of Limflex cattle, arising from crosses between Limousin and the British breeds, and Indusin, between Limousin and Brangus, Braford, Brahman or Nelore.
