Global beer production will shrink by 1.4 billion liters in 2025

Beer output fell particularly sharply in Australia and Oceania, where it fell by 2.4 percent. However, only a small fraction of the world’s beer – 1.8 billion liters – is brewed there. But output also fell among the heavyweights: In Europa one 1.6 percent to 51 billion liters. Declines in Germany and Poland in particular had a negative impact on the figures. With 7.9 billion liters, the Federal Republic was still able to remain the sixth largest beer producer – behind China, the USA, Brazil, Mexico and Russia.

China brews the most

In Asia, emissions fell by 1.2 percent to 59 billion liters. An increase in India was more than offset by declines in China, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea and Myanmar. China remains by far the largest beer producer in the world with a share of more than a sixth.

At the worldwide Hop cultivation is Deutschland is currently number one ahead of the USA in both acreage and harvest volume. Worldwide, however, this is also falling – and even faster than with beer. The global hop cultivation area fell by 5.5 percent to 52,660 hectares. The harvest volume fell by 3.8 percent to 109,188 tons.

But according to the experts, even that is still too much: “Production will also exceed demand in 2025,” says Heinrich Meier from BarthHaas. BarthHaas expects this year no growth in beer output, primarily due to declines in Europe and North America.
